REaL BREAD CRAFTED BY HAND

When’s the last time you tasted REAL bread? At Mission Bakehouse our bread is different. It starts with heritage whole grains that are grown by our local farmer friends at Eck Farms. This grain is expertly milled into the most beautiful fresh flour by our friends at Tegner Mill. We hand mix, shape, and ferment each loaf and then bake it in our Belgain made 3-deck brick oven. The result: a nutritious bread with a tender, chewy, crumb with just the right amount of sour.

FLOUR, WATER, SALT - THAT’S IT!

When was the last time you read the ingredients on the back of your store bought bread? At Mission Bakehouse you can be sure your bread is free of conditioners, bleach, preservatives, etc. We keep it simple - making our bread like your great grandma used to - with just flour, water, and salt.

EAT LOCAL SUPPORT LOCAL

The only thing more satisfying than eating fresh delicious REAL bread is knowing exactly where it comes from. Mission Bakehouse is made right here in Turlock with Turlock milled flour from grain grown by a Turlock farmer. Get to know Mike, your baker, by clicking the button below.

Proud to Support Turlock’s Local Grain Economy

We are proud to be part of Turlock’s local grain economy. Mission Bakehouse is a local craft bakery that uses fresh local flour milled with locally grown heritage wheat. With today’s supermarkets and modern supply chains, eating bread made from wheat grown and milled minutes from your house is virtually impossible in most parts of the country. We are so happy to provide this totally unique bread experience to our local community.

Eck Farms Wheat

We are proud supporters of Eck Farms. Jon Eck is a third-generation Turlock farmer. The Ecks drew upon their regenerative agriculture practices with rye and other cover crops to take their first foray into wheat farming. In December 2020, Eck Farms planted their first wheat crop and we’ve been supporting them ever since! Eck Farms gives our bakery unique access to an amazing offering of heritage grain as well as varieties of wheat specifically bred to thrive in the Central Valley. Additionally, we know Eck Farms never sprays their wheat or uses any harsh pesticides or herbicides.

Tegner Flour Mill

Fresh local flour is back in Turlock! We have been milling our own Eck Wheat in-house for years. This process was time-consuming, loud, dusty and produced flour (while whole and nutritious) much courser than desirable for baking bread. So we were thrilled when Tegner Mill opened up shop summer of 2024. Not only are they local but they use Eck Farms wheat. Expertly milled right here in Turlock, we often receive our flour still warm from the mill. It is an artisan baker’s dream come true. Tegner Mill is honoring Turlock’s history bringing fresh local flour back to our community for the first time in generations.
